In the opening bout of Hatton Promotions’ Wigan show, Denton Vassell extended his unbeaten streak to twelve, defeating Jamal Morrison on points.
Vassell, weighing 10 stone 9, opened the fight effectively, using his jab and striking well to the body of the also unbeaten Morrison.
Morrison, opened well in the second but Vassell’s ability to strike to the body, a strategy of his throughout the fight, pushed back the Londoner.
Vassell controlled the third, with his stronger and classier style, but a good right midway through the round gave hope to Morrison, who went on to have a strong fourth round. Vassel however landed the most important punch of the fourth, staggering Morrison, for the only time in the fight, with a right hook.
Vassell continued to dominate in the final two rounds, in particular with a strong right uppercut in the last, to secure himself a 59-55 points win.
